The Mission He Accepted
“Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.” John 5:19
Remarkable. Jesus did not invent His own mission. It wasn’t even His initiative to do the mission.
“I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” John 5:30
But He is Lord of Lords, right? Yes! Because the Father made Him so:
“For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name.” Phil 2:9
While Jesus did not invent His mission, nor modify or “enhance” it in any way, He DID perform the mission with utmost fidelity and joy – with His whole heart and soul. And, yes, His blood and treasure. Out of love, Jesus accepted the Father’s mission, and gave everything to see it fulfilled.
What is your mission in life? Where did your mission come from? Would you accept God’s mission as your mission?
Next time…What exactly was Jesus’ mission?
